WRITER‘S NOTE

LAS MEMORIAS is a fiction series that tells the story of ARTURO (35), a trader of stolen cell phones who ends up involved in a criminal network much darker than anyone can imagine. The series is intended for a narrative arc of 3 seasons, each with 8 chapters of 45 minutes.

In the ARTURO universe, it’s normal to encounter strange things from time to time. After all, dealing with information from stolen merchandise always involves surprises that can be extremely lucrative. However, neither he nor his partner, MIGUEL, were prepared to see the disturbing footage of a heinous crime stored on one of the many stolen cell phones out there. From now on, no one will be safe.

LAS MEMORIAS is an original story, told from the suburbs of the local, but transcending to universal themes. It is a thriller that aims to keep the viewer on the edge of their seat in which we look for each episode to bring up darker revelations. Step by step we go from a small illegal business in a random store in Bogota, to a criminal network that crosses borders and commits despicable crimes in exchange for large sums of money. We seek to make our viewers feel as anguished as our protagonists, all from the surprise, and the universal feeling of repudiation of crimes that by all accounts should never have existed.

CHARACTER’S PROFILE

Arturo (35):

Owner of a store that buys and sells cell phones in Bogotá. He secretly deals with information he extracts from the stolen cell phones that arrive at his business.

Arturo is a smart man, skilled with machines and computers, but clumsy in his relationships with people. He has a secretive nature and prefers to keep his identity as a hacker in the digital world of information trafficking a secret. Despite his involvement in illegal activities, Arturo has his own code of ethics and ambiguous morals that guide him through his actions.

Arturo had a past as a respectable member of society; he worked as a software programmer, was paying off a mortgage and had a wedding coming up. However, his taciturn nature and social incompetence ended up ruining his relationship, driving him into a depression that affected his job performance and caused his dismissal.

There, the role model man he once was disappeared as he spiraled down into the dark underworld of the illegal trade of cell phones and the information they contained. Over time, Arturo developed an affection for Miguel, a cell phone thief whom he protects and helps to get out of the trouble he gets into.

CHARACTER’S PROFILE

Paula (28):

Call center operator and electronics student.

Paula is a hardworking and honest woman, the complete opposite of her brother Miguel. Unlike her brother’s character, Paula is centered and has clear

goals for her life, staying away from risks and dangers. She could be described as a woman with determination and perseverance.

Paula grew up in Bogotá with her younger brother, Miguel, in a working and dedicated family.

After finishing high school and going through different jobs, she got a job at a call center to help with household expenses and pay for her evening electronics studies at the university.

Despite economic difficulties, her strongcharacter led her to distance herself from Miguel’s criminal life. Paula detests Arturo and considers him responsible for having influenced her brother to commit crimes with him.

As the plot progresses, Paula faces challenges that test her determination and inner strength. Her journey leads her to discover a riskier side of herself.

CHARACTER’S PROFILE

Miguel (25):

Associate in Arturo’s cell phone buying and selling business.

He is outgoing and sociable, with a natural gift for connecting with people and gaining their trust. Although he is no longer a child, Miguel is an immature and

irresponsible person, a situation that leads him to get into trouble with dangerous individuals such as Carlitos.

Miguel is an impulsive and risky individual, always looking for better earnings as a thief. Despite all this, Miguel is loyal to his friends, among them Arturo.

Miguel traveled the streets of Bogota, where he learned to fend for himself from an early age. His ability to bend the rules and find creative solutions to problems made him an expert in theft. That’s how he met Arturo and joined his business of buying and selling cell phones, where he put his skills at the service of the illegal trade.

CHARACTER’S PROFILE

Gustavo Olarte (50):

Entrepreneur in the entertainment sector. In the public eye, Gustavo Olarte is a respectable soap opera producer.

However, his true face is revealed when he gives free rein to his perverse craving as a consumer of snuff videos. The viewing of

these materials is one of the few things that fulfill and satisfy him.

Gustavo was born into a wealthy and powerful family in Bogota and grew up surrounded by luxury and privilege. From a young age, he dedicated himself to building his empire in the entertainment sector, using questionable tactics and shady relationships to consolidate his power and wealth. Over the years, he has amassed a vast network of contacts and allies that allow him to wield considerable influence in the world of organized crime and local politics.

SHADE: (TONO)

The atmosphere of “Las memorias” will be imbued with a Neo Noir aesthetic and subtly influenced by cyberpunk. Neon lights illuminate the store windows, nightclubs and streets of Bogota, reflecting this atmosphere. This aesthetic is combined with the abstract representation of the digital world of hacking explored by Arturo. Despite this, the authenticity and local atmosphere of the city of Bogota is maintained.

The narrative will be characterized by a restrained and sober tone, in keeping with the dark nature of the events narrated. Nevertheless, the characters have moments to show their humanity through subtle touches of humor and emotionality, making them multidimensional characters.

The more sinister and violent aspects of the story are presented in a suggestive rather than explicit manner, keeping the viewer in suspense without resorting to the graphic.

CHARACTER’S PROFILE

"Carlitos" Manrique (40):

Merchant in Sanandresito.

Carlitos is a jovial and affable man, typical of the Caribbean man, who inspires joy and a sense of humor. However, behind that smile lies a greedy and violent man.

Carlos Manrique, better known as Carlitos, is a merchant originally from the high Guajira who settled in Bogotá to engage in the trade of technology, especially cell phones that he illegally imports into the country.

Although he is unaware of the true nature of Arturo’s activities, he has always suspected that he is hiding something. Being a competitive and ambitious merchant, Carlitos seeks to eliminate Arturo from his path and patiently awaits the opportunity to do so.

Throughout the plot, Carlitos becomes a key character. His rivalry with Arturo will be exploited by Gustavo Olarte, who, following the trail of his cell phone, finds Carlitos and discovers his enmity with Arturo, facilitating a plan to incriminate Arturo in Carlitos’s murder.

ENVIROMENT

“Las Memorias” will take place mainly in the city of Bogotá, Colombia, more specifically in the commercial area known as Sanandresito, in reference to the island of San Andrés, through which traditionally imported goods entered the country. Sanandresito is an area that houses around 6000 commercial premises, where the line between legal and illegal becomes blurred.

In many of these premises, criminal organizations of various kinds launder their money. Among the clientele that frequents the place, you can see everything: there are well-to-do people, as well as those with fewer resources. However, they all have something in common: they go to Sanandresito to buy at a good price; in none of the premises is the merchandise priced, so bargaining is the norm. The corridors of the commercial premises are narrow and crowded, you cannot walk without bumping into other buyers or the vendors who pull customers’ clothes to get them into their store.

Although the police are present in the area, they are not necessary when facing petty thieves who are caught stealing the buyers’ wallets or trying to steal merchandise. The merchants themselves perform police and judicial functions. A minor theft is punished with a beating and the humiliation of being stripped naked in public, and then forced to walk without clothes through the city. A more serious theft or betrayal in business will have an even more severe punishment, including death.

Sanandresito is the place where outsiders can find work, first as vendors, then as administrators, and with some luck, maybe they will become owners of their own store. In trade, they learn to bargain and make the highest possible profit, making buyers believe they got a bargain, ignoring that they have just been scammed. In the shop windows, you can see products from big international brands, but much of this merchandise is counterfeit. The buyer leaves convinced that they have just bought clothes from a foreign brand, when in reality it was made in workshops located a few blocks away.
