SYNOPSIS:
During World War II, Karl Ludwig Schweineberg, a dissident musician, and his pregnant wife flee Nazi Germany to Latin America. In Colombia, Karl becomes a teacher of Gregorian music, inspiring his students. But when the Colombian government issues a blacklist of alleged Nazi spies, Karl is unjustly cornered by suspicion and persecution. With his family in danger, he attempts to flee again, but ends up meeting his tragic fate. Although his body is never found, his legacy endures through his wife, who bravely continues his musical legacy while struggling for her son’s survival.
WHY IT MATTERS?
The powerful story of Karl Schweineberg is just one of the thousands of German dissidents who were persecuted despite disagreeing with Nazi policies that continued to stigmatize them till this day. I’M ON T HE RED LIST is a necessary film because it reflects on the pain borne by those whose greater sin was to be born in the wrong place and time. Although identity is reflected beyond the country on a passport, society does not hesitate to discriminate against anyone who comes from a stigmatized territory. This strong discrimination opens up unthinkable wounds between countries as if the distance between both territories neglects the understanding of each other as human beings.
Despite the fact that Nazism seemed to die years ago, the legacy of hatred remains permeated in a lot of people, to the point of not considering those on German territory who stood against Nazism. I’M ON THE RED LIST proposes an approach to tell the story of the German’s own that withhold Nazism.
