SYNOPSIS

Camilo is a young man burdened with the grief of loss and absence. Hand in hand with Sol, whom he feels attracted to, he finds an apparent relief for his pain inside a religious cult to which she’ part of. However, the contradictions of the cult make Camilo realize that, in order to find peace “with himself” , he must distance from everyone including Sol.

director’s note

ENEMY IN THE MIRROR is the story of Camilo, a young man whose life is in chaos, who silences pain, guilt, contradictions and who in the end, like everyone else, deserves the opportunity to rebuild his life.

In the friction between individual freedoms, I found the genesis of the story: a young man who moved by loneliness, enters a religious cult and faces all sorts of contradictions and moral conflicts. While the church is a place that welcomes and provides comfort, it is also a place that separates and isolates anyone who is outside the rules.

The film is defined by the contrasts between its visual and sound tempos. A static camera and a balanced photographic composition are challenged by a sudden movement that offers a glimpse into the emotional instability of the character. Likewise, the raging chords of hard rock and metal disturb the slow, incidental, and diegetic sounds.

ENEMY IN THE MIRROR is a debut feature that gathers many personal and artistic experiences. In its frames, you will be able to trace my cinephilia as small tributes. The soundtrack will be the testimony of my journey through the universe of sound, both in music and audiovisual sound design. This conjunction of elements will make up what I hope to be, above all, an honest film.

THE DIRECTOR: JULIÁN CAMILO SÁNCHEZ

Julián Camilo Sánchez, film and television filmmaker and Master in Creative Writing from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, began his career in the audiovisual field as a post-producer of sound for television and music producer.

In his search for new spaces for artistic creation, he entered the Universidad Nacional de Colombia. There, he wrote and directed the fiction short films “Alas y Neones” (2016), officially selected at the XIV Beijing Film Academy Festival, and “Twist” (2017), winner of the best international short film at the IV International Audiovisual Festival FIAfest. These two audiovisual pieces reflect his main creative strands: drama and film noir.

His foray into feature film screenwriting took place with the crime drama “I Call Them “Souls”“, which won the Feature Film Screenwriting stimulus granted by the Film Development Fund (FDC) in 2019. The same year, he wrote the youth miniseries “Ana yo soy Ana” and the web series “ReConectados“.

In 2020, his script for the crime feature “The Trace” won the Abre Cámara award from the Ministry of Information and Communication Technologies (MinTIC). In 2021, won the FDC’s post-production stimulus.

In 2023, Julián Camilo Sánchez directed his first feature film, “ENEMY IN THE MIRROR“, a drama that captures the aesthetics and emotionality of his first short film “Alas y Neones”.

CAMILO: JOSE RESTREPO

Jose Restrepo is a Colombian film, theatre, and television actor recognized for his participation in the films Malcriados, El man del porno and in the television series Metástasis, Narcos and the recent film Los Iniciados.

In his youth, Restrepo moved to Mexico to study acting. There he worked mainly in theatre, returning to Colombia a few years later. In his native country, he began to appear mainly in television series, including Niñas mal (2010), El laberinto (2012), Metástasis (2014), Laura, la santa colombiana (2015) and Narcos (2016).

The actor has also performed in films, appearing in the movies Apatía, una película de carretera (2012), Malcriados (2016), Tr3s días (2017), El man del porno (2018), Una Madre (2020), Los Iniciados (2023).

In 2016 he obtained a nomination to the Macondo’s Awards in the category of best supporting actor for his participation in the movie Malcriados. In 2023, he was nominated again at the Macondo’s Awards in the category of best leading actor for his participation in Una Madre.

SOL: ANGELA RODRÍGUEZ

Angela Rodríguez is a Colombian actress with a career in theater, film and television.

She is recognized for her participation in the recent Amazon Prime series called “Los Billis”, directed by Felipe Cano and Mateo Stivelberg, which premiered in 2023 and in which she co-starred.

She has also participated in feature films such as “Malta” directed by Natalia Santa and “Verde” directed by Iván Sierra, both to be released in 2024. Also she participated in 2018 in the award-winning short film Destiempo directed by Wann Teems.
