SYNOPSIS:

Jhoana, a Venezuelan immigrant residing in a country with no opportunities, agrees to become a surrogate mother to ensure a dignified life for her young son. Other women arrive alongside her at “Maternity Incuba Care” the agency that will make their dreams come true, as for all of them, it represents a great opportunity. But nothing could be further from reality, since in addition to surrogacy, their bodies are destined to supply the horrific organ trafficking business. Now Jhoana knows her life is on the line, and her only mission becomes finding a way out of that colossal hell.

WHY IT MATTERS?

The right to reproduction is a human right and surrogacy has given the possibility of having biological offspring to couples and individuals who otherwise could not achieve it. However, when we talk about renting a womb, we inevitably face a practice of exploitation of the female body, since many of the women who decide to be surrogate mothers come from vulnerable environments where their basic rights and needs have not been addressed. Therefore they see this path as the only possibility of building a better future for themselves and their families.

Based upon this idea and my own childbirth experience, “Proyecto Incuba” comes to light, a series that explores how women’s bodies have been exploited and violated in several ways for years through the horror genre, displaying how something as delicate as pregnancy can have a dark business operating in the background taking advantage of vulnerable women and their needs, an so the door gets opened to unthinkable threats that bring us closer to the horror of inequality.
